Selling Sun Microsystems Inc’s enterprise servers is a nice money spinner for Amdahl Corp, but if Fujitsu Siemens GmbH has anything to do with it, that may change, with the plug-compatible mainframe maker switching to resell the new GP7000F line of Solaris boxes from the Japanese manufacturer. Amdahl told us earlier this week that its relationship with Sun would probably have to change now that its Fujitsu parent has begun to aggressively market systems which compete with Sun’s.

At yesterday’s European launch of the Fujitsu GPS7000F family, which is being marketed throughout Europe by Fujitsu’s merged computer business with Siemens (see separate story), executives of the new entity, which came into existence at the beginning of October, made it clear that they would like to see Amdahl pushing the Fujitsu boxes. We’re going to discuss with Amdahl the possibility of their reselling our machines instead of Sun’s, said Bernd Puschendorf, VP and managing director of Fujitsu Siemens’ German operations.
