Fujitsu-Siemens tight-lipped on Lenovo rumor

With all the merger and acquisition activity in the run-up to Christmas, the number of rumors circulating has also ratcheted up a notch, with the latest being that Lenovo Group Ltd, having announced an agreement to acquire IBM Corp's PC business, is now turning its attention to Fujitsu-Siemens Computers BV.

By CBR Staff Writer

The rumor comes via Chinese online media company SINA, but has been given short shrift by Amsterdam, Netherlands-based Fujitsu-Siemens. A company spokesperson told ComputerWire the company does not comment on industry rumor, but added: This is the first we’ve heard of it.

An acquisition of Fujitsu-Siemens by Lenovo would give it a foothold in the European market, as well as a server business to put alongside its own PC and server products and the PC business it has just agreed to acquire from IBM.

With the ink on that deal still drying, it might seem unlikely that Lenovo would move to acquire another company quickly, but with M&A activity rife at the moment, almost nothing can be ruled out.
