FUJITSU REVEALS CROSS-LICENSING PACT WITH SEAGATE

By CBR Staff Writer

Fujitsu Ltd says it and Seagate Technology Inc signed a comprehensive cross-licensing agreement late last year for patents on hard disk drives and other magnetic storage peripherals, according to the Nikkei Daily News. Apparently, the deal was signed to avert potential patent disputes over new products. The reported agreement covers patents on magnetic disk systems, including hard disks and cartridge drives, disk subsystems, magnetic tape devices and related components. It provides for freedom of use worldwide for designs worked out in the development of new products by either company, according to Fujitsu.
