Fujitsu Research Laboratories has produced a smaller and more reliable high-speed opto-electrical printer that uses a new optical back-lit recording mode and will be announced this week at International Non-Impact Printer Conference in New Orleans: the new mode reduces the number of operations required to print to four from seven by putting the light source behind the paper, enabling the processes of creating the electrical charge and developing the image to be merged, and eliminating the cleaning process, since 100% of the toner is absorbed; instead of the 8,000 Volts needed previously, the new process requires just 400 Volts, but Fujitsu needed to create a new developer and sensitiser.
