FUJITSU RANKING DIES HARD

By CBR Staff Writer

The myth that Fujitsu Ltd ranks behind DEC and Unisys Corp in the world computer league dies hard, the downgrading of the company’s position being speciously made largely on the grounds that while IBM, DEC and Fujitsu all make chips only Fujitsu sells some of them on the merchant market, so the entire chip business is sometimes stripped out of the figures for comparison purposes, but the plunge of the dollar against the yen establishes Fujitsu even more firmly in the number two spot behind IBM: if, as seems unlikely, the second half is only flat with the first, consolidated turnover for the company this year will be just under $14,000m.
