Fujitsu Ltd is ploughing on with its FM-Towns multimedia home computer and has launched two successor models, aimed at the education market: the FM-Towns Models SH and SF replace the S1 and S2 models and are based on a 16MHz 80386 CPU, with CD-ROM drive and 2Mb main memory; the SF model costs $2,870 and the SH model adds a 40Mb hard disk and costs $4,070; both models began shipping last month and Fujitsu hopes to sell 30,000 of them over three years; the new models feature a number of new packages developed for the educational market, including music education, language training, and a tool kit for junior high school experiments; sales of the FM-Towns have been crimped by lack of software and real applications for the jazzy machines.
