Fujitsu Ltd has brought out a new generation of its multimedia personal computer family, the FM Towns II. The new models, the ME, MA and MX are based respectively on a 25MHz, 33MHz and 66MHz 80486 and are based on the MPC 2.0 multimedia standard established by Fujitsu with IBM Corp earlier this year as a standard for the Multimedia PC Marketing Council. The new models support Photo CD in the standard CD-ROM drive, and the Models MA and MX come standard with 1,024 by 768 displays with support for 1.67m colours; they also add Windows support to the original specification. Fujitsu hopes to sell 150,000 of the new FM Towns models over the next year. The new models support both the 900 software packages developed for FM Towns, and 450 Windows packages.
