Fujitsu launches new 10Gb ethernet switch

Promises to reduce power usage by 30% to less than five watts per port

By CBR Staff Writer

Fujitsu Frontech North America, a supplier of computer products, has extended its family of XG Layer 2 Ethernet networking switching offerings with the launch of XG2600 10Gb ethernet switch.

According to Fujitsu, the 26-port of the XG2600 switch utilises SFP+ optical modules and is designed for use with SFP+ twinax copper cables. It reduces overall networking costs while ensuring ultra low latency and significantly reduced power consumption. It also reduces power usage more than 30% to less than five watts per port.

The company claims that the XG family of high-speed Layer 2 switching offers superior throughput, ultra low latency, interfaces and low failure rates in a compact form factor, creating a suitable networking infrastructure for video server applications, high-performance computing and the internet SCSI and networked attached storage markets.

The use of SFP+ optical modules and support for SFP+ twinax copper cables enables customers to maximise the use of each available port and minimise the overall cost of energy and cabling. The low-power, 1U high form factor allows for easy integration into existing networks and system chassis, the company said.

Jim Preasmyer, director of sales and business development at Fujitsu Frontech, said: The Fujitsu XG Layer 2 Ethernet solutions are consistently recognized across the industry as offering industry-leading low latency and high performance. We are continually working with our customers and channel partners to evolve our products to meet critical enterprise networking needs.

“As a result, we have rolled out the XG2600 to deliver the same low latency and performance capabilities while reducing the overall solution costs including power and cooling. Our customers have come to expect these high-performance networking solutions from Fujitsu.”
