Fujitsu Ltd has made knowledge bases built with its EShell expert system shell compatible with the knowledge base used in an expert system shell from the AIS subsidiary of Seiko Epson Co: the marriage is seen as leading the way to an integrated set of expert system building tools that can run on everything from mainframes down to personal computers – the tools in question are the EShell/FM from Fujitsu (on sale 1986, $78,000, 350 users) and the popular Soogen package from AIS (on sale since June 1986, price $770, 2,500 packages sold, 40% market share in the micro expert system market; EShell/FM is designed for Lisp programming and is a high level tool, while low-prices Soogen can be used in Japanese and has a good user interface.
