Fujitsu Ltd is really quite proud of its new M780 top-end processor: it rates the machine at about 30 MIPS, approximately equivalent to an IBM 3090/200, but says that the entire CPU, 168 gate arrays, fits onto a single 21 by 14 board only slightly bigger than an IBM Personal; similar-sized boards are used for the other major subsystems, including such as the memory control unit and the channel control unit.
