Fujitsu Ltd has a new parallel graphics processor, the CAP-256, which is claimed to be 50% faster than the Facom M-780, Fujitsu’s answer to IBM’s 3090-600: the machine is a cellular array processor with 256 cells that take input from a colour monitor using the video bus, or a host computer using the command bus; each cell consists of an 80186 microprocessor with 8087 co processor, backed with 2Mb of data memory and 96Kb video RAM.
