Fujitsu Ltd has come out with three new models of its Oasys Japanese word processor and has configured it in three applications-specific models – a desk-top publishing machine, a local network server and a desktop word processor: the Oasys series was previously known as an entirely proprietary, very low end Japanese-language word processor; with 180Mb of hard disk, a 21 monitor and a 600dpi laser printer, the Oasys 500GX desk-top publishing system is based on a 33MHz 80386; the OasysDS-Oasys local network server supports sharing of documents and laser printer resources, and has only a 400dpi printer; while the Oasys 70SX desktop model has as standard an artificial intelligence function that supports complete document creation; Fujitsu is following a trend in the dedicated work processor market, following the inroads made into its market – and those of all its competitors – by notebook computers which also run MS-DOS, and the increasing trend towards higher level, higher-priced desk-top publishing systems, which are similar to but work out cheaper than workstations in Japan.
