Indifference from risk-averse venture capitalists is increasingly driving the next generation of hot new US computer companies into the arms of the Japanese, and the latest to turn to Tokyo for additional funds is start-up Poqet Computer Corp. The Sunnyvale, California company where Robb Wilmot is chairman, is working on a hand-held MS-DOS computer, and has no doubt used the Wil mot contacts made when he was running ICL to get backing from Fujitsu Ltd, which has paid an undisclosed sum for a 38% stake in the expanded equity. Poqet has also won co-operative technology development and worldwide marketing agreements with Fujitsu and says the cash will enable it to put its prototype Poqet PC into production. The machine is due to be launched later this summer. Poqet has international headquarters here in the UK in Weybridge, Surrey.
