Fujitsu Ltd has released two new models in its compact desktop FMR series of low-cost PCs. The FMR-70CL1 and the FMR-50Cl were put on sale from May 19. They are designed to be used as local area network clients working in particular with the FMR-340SV server model. The new personal computer clients have a footprint 33% smaller than previous models, and are being sold with Windows 3.1 pre-installed. The machines range in price from $2,255 for the floppy drive FMR-70CL model, based on an Intel 80486SX chip through to $3,075 for the Model 120/W which is the pre-installed Windows machine. Fujitsu will be exhibiting the models at Windows World Japan which runs from June 13 to 18 at Makuhari Messe near Tokyo, and at Network ’93 from June 23 to 25. Various other peripherals and software were announced at the same time, and links with Oracle have also been improved, using NetWare to link an Oracle server to Macintosh and Unix clients, and providing support for communications with Oracle running on Unix servers, via products such as SQL*Net, TCP/IP for NetWare and KeySQL for Windows.
