In time for last week’s Business Show in Tokyo, Fujitsu Ltd, along with many other companies made new product announcements. Fujitsu has released new models in its Intel Corp iAPX-86-based personal computers, the FMR Series. Four models in 24 different versions of the FMR-80HL2, which uses the 50MHz 80486DX2 chip were introduced. In addition, aiming at the computer-aided design market, flicker-free displays displaying 256 colours from a palette of 16.7m were announced. The internal hard disk FMR models feature a 1Gb disk, and a number of other optional units are available including a digital audio tape unit, also to be installed internally. Support for an Optical Character Recognition reader, and the most recent products in the Dataeye-100 series, the Dataeye-150 and 170. Applications now available for the FMR-80HL2 series include Windows versions of Oasys, Fujitsu’s Japanese language word processor, and an IBM 3270 terminal emulator. – Anita Byrnes
