Fujitsu has signed a contract extension with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) for the provision and management of its ICT managed services.

The earlier five-year, £34m contract enabled the PSNI to reduce the complexity of its service management by consolidating its existing, multiple IT service providers into a single provision by Fujitsu, and was signed in 2008.

Under the contract, Fujitsu is the ICT service provider for PSNI, covering its service desk, fixed line telephony network, data networks, desktop and laptop computer requirements, applications hosting services, a network of static and mobile automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and a range of applications support services.

The current deal worth £19m will run for an additional three years extension, taking the contract through to 2016.

Fujitsu sees that the new contract will offer an additional saving of 15% on current operational ICT costs and cover additional applications.

Fujitsu notes that it manages the maintenance and servicing of over 9,000 PCs and laptops for police officers and staff performing their daily duties, and offers on-site support desk services, which helps improve the speed with which IT queries are handled.

Meanwhile PSNI notes that the deal meets its requirement for a solid ICT infrastructure that can be used in various mission-critical situations within its policing operations.
