Fujitsu has upgraded its electronic medical record (EMR) system, HOPE/EGMAIN-RX, with a new function that enables outpatient clinics to cross-reference medical data with other institutions by utilising HumanBridge and other regional medical networks.

The company stated that the addition of a standard information-sharing feature HumanBridge in the new upgrade allows for cross-referencing of medical information and improved quality.

Fujitsu said through the new device, clinics and other medical facilities will be able to cross-reference each others’ patient data that each separately maintains, which will allow confirming the contents of a patient’s medical records from any medical institution within a region.

After receiving consent from the patient to disclose EMR data, information such as order forms, profiles, disease indications, laboratory results and medication histories can be provided at the request of other medical institutions connected to the regional medical network.

The function will help avoid unnecessary duplications of diagnostic tests or drug administration and enable accurate medical services for emergency outpatient procedures, the Japanese company said.

The new upgraded version of HOPE/EGMAIN-RX has already been rolled out in Japan.
