FTP SAYS IBM DEAL INCLUDES CROSS-LICENSING AGREEMENT

By CBR Staff Writer

FTP Software Inc says its recently struck agreement with IBM Corp encompasses cross-licensing, marketing and development activities around the inclusion of TCP/IP within IBM’s 18-year-old SNA Systems Network Architecture. As part of the agreement, IBM’s new eNetwork Communications Suite includes TCP/IP and FTP’s Agent Responder push technology, launched at Networld+Interop this month (CI No 3,150). But according to FTP, IBM is worried about givng away too much detail on the products they will be jointly developing, because many of them cannibalize current IBM offerings. On the back of the deal, FTP is also in talks with IBM’s Tivoli Systems Inc unit, about integrating its agent technology into Tivoli’s TME 10 network management system.
