FRENCH REGULATOR SETS INTERCONNECTION CHARGES

By CBR Staff Writer

The chairman of the French telecommunications regulator yesterday set charges for other phone companies to connect to France Telecom SA’s network, saying the interconnection charges were slightly higher than those charged by British Telecommunications Plc but in line and often lower than the European average. However, that did not satisfy Bouygues Telecom SA, whose external relations director, Thierry Mileo, complained We had asked for a 30% cut from France Telecom’s first proposals; what we have got is a 15% reduction; we are therefore dissatisfied; Cegetel, the other contender, had no immediate comment.
