With CAP Group in bed with Sema-Metra SA and Systems Designers wed to Scicon, all eyes are now on Logica Plc, and the consensus is that the acquisition of Data Architects Inc in the US is nowhere near enough to give it the gravitas to hold its own against rivals that will soon be twice its size: that thinking saw news of the dawn raid on CAP (see front) cause the nil-paid shares Logica is issuing in connection with its US adventure soar to 65 pence Friday morning after opening at 8p, but Logica remains determined to be predator not prey, and a French partner is the most desirable target – best bet looks to be Generale de Service en Informatique SA, GSI, which was born last year as a management buyout from Compagnie Generale d’Electricite SA; most management buy-outs soon find themselves short of cash and therefore in a weak position to defend themselves, and few retain their independence for long.
