Freescale to unveil new traffic classification, load balancing software

VortiQa ITCL software classifies and distributes data traffic flow throughout enterprise and data centre network elements

By CBR Staff Writer

Freescale Semiconductor will introduce VortiQa intelligent traffic classification and load balancing (ITCL) software to help network designers meet throughput, latency, power, cost and future-proofing requirements.

VortiQa ITCL software classifies and distributes data traffic flow throughout enterprise and data centre network elements, including multiple VAS nodes, allowing network architectures to scale to accommodate the increased load as equipment is added.

It also duplicates the traffic multiple times to enable several types of network traffic monitoring, the company said.

The new software is designed for Freescale’s flagship QorIQ multicore embedded processors and is optimised for Freescale’s QorIQ P4080 and QorIQ AMP T4240 platforms.

The VortiQa ITCL software classifies packets to stateful flows, filters the packets, identifies complex application flows and then distributes the packets to the appropriate nodes. The data classification and distribution capabilities balance traffic loads evenly.

ITCL software optimises the computing resources to enhance performance and it also engages and disengages VAS nodes according to demand to save bandwidth and power while the network equipment lifespan is extended with improved utilisation of network resources.

The new software classifies packets and selects target cluster(s) to distribute the sessions and also features TCP/IP protocol classification at L2/L3/L4 and custom protocol classification and SSL traffic flow detection on non-standard ports.
