And still it rumbles on… France demanded yesterday that the European Commission shed light on Germany’s decision to make a separate telecommunications trade deal with the US with European Affairs Minister Alain Lamassoure saying Either Germany has not respected the Community’s decision or it would appear Community law permits a member state to ignore a unanimously supported decision and either way, it is no good, and according to Reuter, US trade representative Mickey Kantor and his Euro-counterpart Sir Leon Brittan failed to sort out the disagreement in their meeting at Heathrow; and Kantor told the British news agency that the US expects Germany to stand by its decision not to apply the Euro-directive, adding that the US-German accord came about at Bonn’s initiative.
