France Telecom Network Services (Suisse) SA, the Swiss arm of Transpac, the French operator’s data network switching subsidiary, has won a contract with transport company Danzas that should be worth several million dollars annually, France Telecom reports. Under the contract, the Swiss subsidiary will manage Danzas’ enterprise network in France, Germany and Switzerland. Transpac itself also launched Internet access services in France. Initially, Transpac is proposing client access on TCP/IP Ethernet for users with Unix workstations or Internet Protocol equipped personal computes, at rates of 9.6Mbps and 19.2Mbps. The service, which includes installation and operation of premises equipment and connection fees, will cost $890 per month for 9.6Mbps and $1,340 for 19.2Mbps, before tax. In July, the operator will offer a usage-based fee option, as well as an X.25-based access scheme.
