FRANCE TELECOM TO ADOPT THE BRTITISH MPT 1327 STANDARD SIGNALLING PROTOCOL

It now seems almost certain that when the France Telecom issues licences for trunked private mobile radio services it will adopt the British MPT 1327 standard signalling protocol, and there are signs that the German Bundespost may well follow suit; formal French confirmation is expected at the end of May – changes of government notwithstanding – and, if adopted, could have significant implications for the UK private mobile industry: Band Three Radio’s Andrew Robb predicts that, trans-European roaming advantages aside, joint research and development programmes would lower the cost of equipment manufacturing and put European companies in a competitve position for sales of equipment to the Far East.
