France Telecom, the leading internet service provider in France, has selected BullSoft’s firewall to secure its managed internet access service. BullSoft is the software division of French computer and services company, Groupe Bull SA. The incumbent French telco will resell, implement and support BullSoft’s AccessMaster Netwall as part of France Telecom’s Global Intranet service, which includes firewall management, anti-virus deployment and authentication. France Telecom will offer the Netwall service to French users from November, and will probably expand it to Europe in the next six months.

Netwall runs on the AIX, Solaris flavors of Unix, as well as the Windows NT operating system. It costs between $1,600, for 25 internet access points, and $19,500 for unlimited network access. A BullSoft spokesperson said that Netwall had been chosen because of the robustness of its design, which distributes traffic to different servers from one internet protocol address, and because of the proximity of its services in Echirolles, near Grenoble.
