After making his reputation as a turnaround expert, Breton had been tipped as the person to regenerate France’s ailing economy. But with France Telecom still some way from full recovery, there was gloom in investment circles as to the company’s prospects if he departed.
France Telecom was also boosted by a story published in French newspaper La Tribune that suggested telecom regulator ART would increase its fixed-line prices in 2005.
