The French government has now decided that CEA-Industrie, the industrial arm of the Centre for Atomic Energy, and France Telecom, will gradually assume control of a majority of the almost 50% French holding stake in SGS-Thomson Microelectronics NV. Thomson-CSF SA will not disengage itself from SGS-Thomson, says the government communique, but will continue, like the other shareholders, to participate in the development of the company’s activities. The capital restructuring is to be accompanied by a plan for wider co-operation between SGS-Thomson and the Centre National d’Etudes des Telecommunications and the Laboratoire d’Electronique et de Technique Industrielle du CEA.
