France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom AG have told European Competition Commissioner Karel Van Miert that they are prepared to make considerable changes to their Atlas joint venture in an attempt to meet his reservations about the agreement to offer global telecommunication services to major companies – but he declined to elaborate on the changes. Commenting on recent remarks by Deutsche Telekom’s chief financial officer Joachim Krske, Van Miert again warned the two state-owned companies and their governments that the deal would not get the Commission’s green light unless big changes were made, Reuters reports from Brussels. If Krske thinks he can get away with a few cosmetic changes he is kidding himself he warned darkly.
