Now that South Africa is off the list of pariah nations kept by the Politically Correct, companies are rushing to enter the market, and a spokesman for France’s Ministry of Post and Telecommunications says it should know in the next three to four weeks whether South Africa will conclude any deals in France for telecommunications equipment or services. A statement issued after meetings between the French and South African ministers of posts and telecommunications said such a collaboration should take shape in the next few weeks via important industrial agreements, which would permit South Africa to place itself in the near future among the countries most advanced in mobile communications. Although no contracts were signed, says the spokesman, France’s minister Emile Zuccarelli was optimistic that South Africa’s desire to augment its telecommunications infrastructure could mean new business for France’s telecommunications industry. He added, however, that it was impossible to predict exactly since South Africa’s minister, Piet Welgemoed, was making the tour of Europe, talking to all European telecommunications ministers.
