US West Inc’s US West Advanced Communications Services reports that its Frame Relay Service sales and revenue figures to date exceed market estimates by a substantial margin – and appear to demonstrate increasing momentum in customer acceptance of Frame Relay technology: the Englewood, Colorado Baby Bell has deployed Frame Relay Service in 18 metropolitan areas and statewide in three of its 14 states and as of June 1, it had more than 600 ports deployed within 32 Frame Relay contracts; by year-end it expects to close an additional 90 contracts representing nearly 1,500 additional ports, bringing aggregate revenues of more than $20m – exceeding some local exchange carrier Frame Relay forecasts by as much as 800%; While Asynchronous Transfer Node has been getting the headlines, Frame Relay has quietly moved closer to mainstream acceptance, said Nick Lippis, president of Strategic Networks Consulting Inc, Rockland, Massachusetts There are many networking applications in which Frame Relay boosts bandwidth yet competes effectively with the costs of private lines.
