According to Bloomberg, the company is expanding its production capacity to meet the orders from its customers, including Nokia and Sony Ericsson. Its facility in Shenzen, China is currently operating at full capacity and the new plant is expected to take pressure off it.

Building the site in Huizhou in Guangdong province is part of Shenzhen, southern China-based Foxconn’s projected capital spending of $1 billion for 2007 and next year. The Huizhou site may eventually become larger than the company’s premises in Shenzhen, the biggest site at present, said Foxxconn International’s spokesman Vincent Tong to Bloomberg.

The firm plans to hire more than 10,000 workers for the Huizhou plant, which is due to start up in the third quarter of 2008, as reported by Reuters.

The company also invested in facilities in Russia and Vietnam in the fiscal 2007. Its competitor M-Flex installed its plant for more than $33m in Suzhou, near Shanghai.
