Fox Software International launched its FoxPro 2.0 personal computer database management system which it claims has four times faster access than DB2 on an IBM mainframe with a 200Mb, 1m-record database: FoxPro 2.0 is based on the company’s Rushmore query optimisation and a new Relational Query-by-Example, RQBE, interactive environment for retrieving information; a separate Extended Mode version for 80386 and 80486 processors will be shipped with all products; FoxPro 2.0 has applications development tools including object-oriented Menu Builder, Screen Builder, Report Writer, and Label Tools, reducing the code needing to be written; due to ship next month, the product will be offered as an upgrade from any other database management system for just UKP150 for a limited period.
