Foursquare looking forward to ‘the next quadrillion’ hits

Launches new version of its app with a tab for 'Lists' feature

By CBR Staff Writer

Two-year-old location-based social networking service Foursquare has hit a billion check-ins.

The New York-based social networking service was in the news, when the US President Barack Obama joined it last month.

The company is now looking at the quadrillion milestone.

It said on a blog, "Anyway, a billion check-ins was pretty cool. Thanks for helping us get there, and we look forward to the next quadrillion."

The company has made a video of some of the data it has of worldwide checkins over an entire week.

Foursquare said, "Because we’re data nerds, we put together a video of what a week of check-ins looks like on foursquare. We think it’s pretty, but, more than that, there’s some really awesome data there. Watch it a couple of times to see the patterns as night settles over the globe, as venue categories ebb and flow on different continents, and as teeming cities wake up and fall asleep. It’s even more awesome in full-screen, in all its HD glory."
