Forte Software Inc, which will launch version 2 of its application development software by mid-year, claims it is just a matter of weeks away from naming some high profile UK companies using the software (CI No 2,516). Version 2 will include the promised Object Request Broker and Remote Procedure Call mechanism for those that want it, although they will slow performance, it says. The Oakland, California-based company, which has spent a mint on getting its product to market, developing all its software in-house, is keen to distance itself from the handful of other second generation application developers. The main difference between itself and the likes of Dynasty Technologies Inc, says Steve Brenman, UK managing director, is Forte’s decoupled dev elopment of an application’s functionality from the process of partitioning the application. Forte defines a logical application without deciding where each portion of the application will run.
