Chet Silvestri, who less than a month ago jumped ship at Sun Microsystems Inc where he served as president of the Microelectronics Division (CI No 3,362), has turned up at self- described fabless semiconductor start-up Tripath Technology Inc. Silvestri will take over as chief operating officer at the San Jose-based company, where he’ll take responsibility for developing the management team and business strategy for the company. Tripath says it’s developing a family of digital audio amplifiers for its first line of products to overcome the drawbacks of linear technology. Each Tripath DAA is a single chip that provides CD- quality amplification with little heat generated and wasted – which will reduce the amount of energy consumed, reduce the physical size and boost the audio quality in every audio system in which they are used, claims Tripath. Tripath was founded in 1995 and says its target markets are personal computers, home audio and car audio.
