Internet consulting and services firm USWeb Corp has appointed former Oracle Corp executive Robert Shaw as its new chief executive officer. Shaw was formerly executive vice president for worldwide consulting services at Oracle, where he worked for six years, before resigning in August. During his time at Oracle, Shaw was responsible for building the global consulting organization and infrastructure to a $2.5bn business with more than 15,000 consultants. Shaw replaces Joe Firmage, co-founder and current chairman of USWeb, who will assume a new role as chief strategist at the company and continue to serve on the board. Upon the completion of the merger with CKS Group Inc to form Reinvent Communications Inc later this year, Shaw will become CEO of Reinvent and will be a member of the board. Mark Kvamme, chairman of CKS is expected to become chairman of the combined company. USWeb, which plans to continue increasing its critical mass as it attempts to become a billion dollar internet systems and marketing communications company, felt that now was the right time to bring in a seasoned executive to oversee its growth. Firmage himself, who is 28 years old, was a prime mover in the search that resulted in the appointment of Shaw, 51.
