Fore Systems Inc will offer a new family of high-speed Asynchronous Transfer Mode adaptors 50% cheaper than its previous products to make the technology more competitive with Fast Ethernet technology. The company said its ForeRunnerLE family of adaptors is available now at 25Mbps and 155Mpbs transmission speeds and designed for use in personal computer desktops and servers. ForeRunnerLE 25Mbit adaptors are available in workgroup packages consisting of 18 or 24 adaptors purchased with a ForeRunner 25Mbps workgroup switch. The adaptors are priced as low as $150 when bought in packages. The company did not specify how much the related switch product would cost; stand-alone ForeRunnerLE adaptors are $300 per unit for 25Mbps adaptors, $500 for Unshielded Twisted Pair 155Mbps adaptors and $600 for Multimode Fiber 155Mbps adaptors, Fore said.
