Force10 Networks has opened a new innovation centre in Olympia Technology Park at Chennai, India to expand its research and development (R&D) in 44,000sq ft facility, and house data centre.

The company said that it has expanded its R&D and support teams by 50% since April 2010, and has hired 80 engineers to carry out its development work in India.

Force10 expects to nearly double its engineering team by 2011, and plans to invest $10m to outfit and operate its new 3,500sq ft development lab, which is twice the size of its former lab.

The new 1,500sq ft data centre also has doubled in size.

According to Force 10, the innovation centre is the global centre for core/switch product development, including software development and testing, for its E-, S- and C-Series product lines and multi-protocol label switching (MPLS).

These products provides port density per square inch to help customers deploy an agile and standards-based Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 10GbE data centre network fabric, while reducing power and cooling costs.

Force10 Networks India operations vice president Prakash Sripathy said that the Chennai innovation centre is well positioned and geared up to match the pace and scale of growth in new product development at Force10.

"The company will continue to play a major role in expanding Force10’s footprint in the data centre and enterprise market space," Sripathy said.
