Fora Inc of San Jose, California has launched a new notebook computer, the NBL-386S/20: the 80386SX notebook has an optional mouse pad, and including a battery, weighs 4.5 lbs; it measures 11 by 8.6 by 1.4 and comes with 1Mb memory that can be expanded to 4Mb, 64Kb ROM, an internal 2.5 23mS hard disk drive and an external 3.5 1.44Mb floppy drive with cable; it is configured with one parallel and one serial port, plus a port for an external VGA display; the paperwhite backlit LCD screen has a resolution of 640 by 480, and the VGA-compatible display supports 32 grey scales; the NBL-386S/20 is powered by a detachable, rechargeable 13 Watt-hour nickel cadmium battery that provides two hours per charge and can be recharged in four hours; a BIOS controlled sleep mode, screen-saver program and system-down feature help conserve battery power; it supports several operating systems and software, including Windows 3.0, MS-DOS, OS/2, Xenix, Unix and NetWare 386; options include the $145 mouse pad with VGA port, 2Mb and 4Mb memory modules at $200 and $375 respectively, a $235 pocket send facsimile, a 2,400 bps internal modem that costs $240, an external 5.25 floppy disk drive for $245, an RS-232 serial port for $40, and SafeLink anti-virus file-transfer software at $70; the NBL-386S/20 is available now and costs $3,500.
