Now that it’s in the driving seat of the new company formed by merging its telecommunications and computer businesses with those of ITT Corp, Compagnie Generale d’Electricite has decided to stick one of its own names on what was provisionally dubbed Transglobal Communications, calling it Alcatel NV. Registered in the Netherlands and managed from Brussels, Alcatel NV starts life with annual sales of $12,500m, 150,000 employees, and operations in 75 countries. It is owned 55.6% by CGE, 37% by ITT, 5.7% by Societe Generale de Belgique and 1.7% by Credit Lyonnais.
