British Telecommunications Plc is looking for a new name because it thinks the one with which it was saddled by the government was much too parochial for a company with designs on the world market, reports the Daily Telegraph: without hesitation, we offer Imperial Telecommunications Plc – Imperial, not ITP, for short, which carries exactly the right connotation of empire-building, effortless superiority, and lofty condescension to lesser breeds – such as its customers.
