Flurry and Pinch Media have entered into a definitive agreement to merge, to strengthen their combined position as the mobile application analytics providers on digital media platforms including iPhone and Android.

As a combined company, the companies claim that their analytics services will be running on more than 80% of all iPhone, iPod Touch and Android handsets worldwide.

The merged company will retain the Flurry name, and maintain existing San Francisco and New York offices. In the near-term, the company’s main priorities will be to unify its service and increase the analytics feature-set offered.

The companies said that the merged company will track more than 1 billion end-user sessions per month on applications installed across 50 million iPhone, iPod Touch and Android devices. Flurry AppCircle, currently in private beta, is a series of services designed to use data to intelligently target consumers and increase sales in the App Store.

Simon Khalaf, president and CEO of Flurry, said: Flurry has long since admired Pinch Media’s leadership in iPhone analytics and monetisation, and is proud to join forces with such an accomplished team. Leveraging the industry’s broadest and deepest set of data for iPhone and Android, the combined company will be strongly positioned to deliver a series of monetisation and marketing optimisation services in ways few other companies can.

Greg Yardley, co-founder and CEO of Pinch Media, said: Joining forces with Flurry’s innovative team made perfect sense from the moment we considered it. We’re still focused on helping iPhone application developers succeed, and thanks to this merger we’ll be able to do so in many more ways.
