Compaq Computer Corp looks set fair as it enters its fourth, and traditionally best quarter. Chief executive Eckhard Pfeiffer was optimistic about our sales opportunities. He said the company had now completed its transition to new products across its whole range. Worldwide industry demand appears to be quite strong, he observed. Compaq’s new notebook offering, the LTE 5000 had been chosen by Microsoft Corp for 400 of its sales team to demonstrate Windows 95 (CI No 2,572). Gazing into his crystal ball at the company’s Innovate conference in Houston, Texas, Pfeiffer predicted that servers would be ubiquitous, providing low-cost computing in every area of life. He said the boundaries will dissolve between private and public networks… between personal and corporate computing… between the computer and the network.
