Florida Polytechnic University has opened a $60m library of the future, with no physical books; instead the library will give access to 135,000 e-books.
The library is situated under the white-domed building which is spread across 11,000 square-foot.
The university has set aside $60,000 to provide access to books that the library does not own, according to Library Journal.
In the system, if a book is viewed twice then it is considered to be purchased, this system will allow the university to get more books and pay for the ones that are actually used by the students or staff.
The main reference desk is called a ‘success desk’, which will help students tutor resources and manage the digital property.
The concept is already adopted by others such as a public library in Bexar County, Texas, a school library in Minnesota along with two libraries in NASA.
