Floating Point Systems Inc, Beaverton, Oregon, is thrilled with the results of its latest benchmark on the Inmos Transputer-based T 100 machine: it says it has achieved a two-dimensional convolution of 579 MFlops – 1,300m operations every 2.3 seconds, about three times the peak speed of a Cray X-MP/12 and fast enough to allow the market to consider image processing in real time; the configuration used was of four cabinets, each with two modules individually rated at an approximate peak speed of 96 MFlops; Floating Point also says it has now shipped and installed eight Ts.
