FLAG CHOOSES GROUP FOR UK-JAPAN FIBRE OPTIC LINK

Flag Ltd, Nynex Corp’s Fiberoptic Link Around the Globe, has chosen a multinational group to construct what it claims will be the world’s longest undersea fibre optic communications cable, connecting the UK with Japan at a cost of more than $1,000m: the suppliers will be AT&T Submarine Systems Inc and KDD Submarine Cable Systems of Tokyo; the 17,000-mile cable will connect three continents through landing points in 11 countries, crossing the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Indian Ocean, South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
