FISCHER HAS $60 SMARTY DEVICE

By CBR Staff Writer

Fischer International Systems Corp of New York has launched a device that turns a personal computer into an automatic teller machine – but of course it dispenses only electronic cash, delivering it to your Smart Card. The $60 Smarty device can be inserted into the floppy disk drive of any machine, enabling it to read Smart Cards. Fischer holds key patents for Smart Card readers inserted into 3.5 floppy drives. It says it is working with several major US and European financial services firms to spur use of the devices in a variety of business and consumer applications, including home banking over the Internet.
