By CBR Staff Writer

Fort Wayne, Indiana-based Rimsat Ltd reports that a Russian Proton rocket successfully launched a communications satellite into geosynchronous orbit over the Pacific Ocean: the Gorizont satellite, built and launched by Informcosmos Stock Co, was the first to go up under a $130m agreement between Rimsat and Russia; Rimsat already operates a satellite that was repositioned over the Pacific in July; the new satellite will receive and transmit signals over an area from Saudi Arabia to Hawaii and from north of Russia to south of Australia; Informcosmos is scheduled to launch another Gorizont satellite for Rimsat in March, to be followed by four more powerful Express satellites over the next 36 months.
