Symphony Laboratories Inc of Santa Clara, California claims to have the first AT-alike core logic chip set that meets the just-finalised open specifications of the Video Electronic Standard Association for local bus implementations: Haydn II is the latest version of Symphony’s chip set and enables engineers to create highly integrated VL-Bus motherboard designs, the company says, adding that initially the key benefit will be greatly accelerated Windows performance as a result of tighter coupling of video, core logic and CPU functions, and that storage and networking applications will also benefit from performance improvements as VL-Bus products become available; the Haydn II set can be used with any 80386 or 80486 microprocessor and all devices operate at 50MHz, and systems can be created with as few as eight active comlete motherboard; the set is sampling now at $38, with volume production planned to begin in October.
