Finjan Software Inc has won an OEM agreement with Intel Corp that will see its SurfinShield desktop security product included on a new internet utilities CD that Intel is bundling with its motherboards to second-tier PC companies. Intel has separate agreements with the large PC manufacturers that use its motherboards, like Dell Computer Corp and Hewlett-Packard Co. Finjan CEO Bill Lyons says this an opportunity for Finjan to seed the market. If users find the product useful, Finjan will attempt to sell them a corporate version, including centralized policy management. Use of SurfinShield will take users to a co-branded Intel/Finjan web site, from where they can contact Finjan, or vice versa. Lyons says version 4.0 of SurfinShield, which blocks various types of mobile code, is still on schedule to ship early next month (05/03/99). Finjan has other OEM agreements with IBM Corp and Cisco Systems Inc.
